Tree topping is not professional pruning.
Topping removes large portions of a tree’s crown without regard for proper branch unions or long-term structure. It can create large wounds, rapid sprout growth, decay and future maintenance problems.
When size or clearance must be managed, proper reduction cuts are generally preferable. In some cases, the honest recommendation may be that the desired amount of reduction is not appropriate for the tree.
